The Sheriff's Office hosts a periodic Citizens Academy that provides an opportunity for members of the community to receive education on the functions of the Anderson County Sheriff's Office.
The goal of the academy is to foster positive relationships between the community and its Sheriff's Office. Graduates will gain an understanding of the operation of the Anderson County Sheriff's Office and develop an awareness and appreciation of the various challenges and decisions faced daily, by the Sheriff's Office; as well become goodwill ambassadors.
The Citizens Academy is an intense eight week immersion into the detailed operation of the Sheriff’s Office. Civic-minded community leaders give over fifty hours of their own time to attend twice weekly training sessions. These sessions were taught by Sheriff’s Office staff that are leaders in their respective unit and know the units operations intimately. Participants were exposed to the daily operations of each unit to include its budget, staffing, procedures/operations, and limitations. These sessions included tours of each of the Sheriff’s Office buildings. There were also many demonstrations and displays.
The goal of the Citizens Academy is to educate its participants about the role law enforcement plays in society and more specifically their own community. We want them to know not only what we do but why and how we do it and to leave the session proud of THEIR Sheriff’s Office! If you are interested in being a participant at our next citizens academy, please contact your respective region Captain. Information on your regional captain can be found here.
