The records staff with the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office has currently been appointed as the contact for obtaining the Non-Ferrous Metals permits that are required by individuals who wish to transport and or sell Non-Ferrous metals to secondary recycling companies. This permit is required under South Carolina State Law (cited at right) and is mandatory in the State of South Carolina. This permit covers non-ferrous metals, and NO PERMIT IS REQUIRED FOR ALUMINUM CANS.
Applications for permits can be obtained from the Records Section during the hours of 8:30am to 4:00pm Monday thru Friday, excluding holidays. In order to obtain a non-ferrous metals permit from the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, you must be a resident of Anderson County. A valid picture ID is required. The picture ID can be one of the following: Valid State Issued ID, Valid State issued Driver’s License or a valid Military ID card.
A criminal background check will be run on all individuals wishing to obtain a non-ferrous metals permit. If the applicant has been convicted of or if charges are pending for any crimes involving theft of or damage to property to obtain non-ferrous metals then a permit is subject to denial. Any individual with an active warrant is subject to arrest, prior to issuance of a permit even if the crime is not in reference to non-ferrous metals.
Dates and times for issuing the non-ferrous permits are subject to change at any given time, due to computer outages, staffing shortage, inclement weather conditions, and any other unforeseen event that could occur. If you need to know about a change in times please contact us at 864-260-4439 or 864-260-4437.
Again the last application for a permit is taken at 4:00 PM due to time restraints of back ground checks and warrant checks.
